In Greene County district court Katie Capri Schafer, 35, of West Des Moines was granted a deferred judgment Jan. 24 after she pleaded guilty to a charge of possession of marijuana. She was placed on informal probation for one year and must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at her own expense. She must pay a civil penalty of $315 with a $125 Law Enforcement Initiative surcharge. Court costs were $100. (Sentencing: Honorable Joseph B. McCarville)
Persons pleaded not guilty at arraignment as follows: Micheal Allen Clement, 58, of Boone, possession of marijuana; Jessica Jo Peterson, 36, of Ogden, burglary- third degree; Mark James Hurley, 55, of Jefferson, operating while intoxicated- second offense; Damon David Joseph Zimpel, 29, of Scranton, OWI- first offense; Dennis Ray Hagen, 61, of Jefferson, OWI- second offense; Marcia Kay Lowe, 56, of Yale, possession of marijuana- third or subsequent offense; Vilma Espanola Howlett, 61, of Boone, OWI- first offense; and Greg William Hackler, 29, of Jefferson, driving while license barred. Trial dates were set for March 3 for every defendant except Lowe. Her trial date was set for April 7.
Cases were initiated in district court as follows: Juan Angel Guzman, 32, of Jefferson, theft- second degree; Joshua Leo LeClair, 35, of Churdan, dominion/control of firearm/offensive weapon by felon; and Robert E. Barnard Jr, 53, of Des Moines, domestic abuse assault displaying or using weapon.
